Bikes and BBQ

[Dani Way]

The A group led a quick and beautiful 40 mile ride through hilly west Austin. I rubbed Ben Cross’ back wheel when turning off of Anderson Mill and went down very briefly. The entire 40 man peloton graciously waited for me to return to the group, and I have to admit that I’ve never been so grateful towards a group of cyclists. Myself and about 3-4 other cyclists fell off the back of the peloton on the way up Volente, and Devin Parker, Derek Alverado, & Paul Carty (from Comanche) led a train that successfully pulled us back to the larger group in attempts to keep the ride together. Everyone showed a great deal of cohesive teamwork and general tenderness towards their fellow riders. It made me proud to be apart of the “roadie” community and to be so close to so many talented and respectful cyclists.

Then we all came back to Nelo’s where loud debauchery ensued. I’m pretty sure David did most of the talking that afternoon (as usual)… And I don’t think I have ever eaten so much meat in one setting. Team Comanche brought a keg of Austin Beerworks Fire Eagle, and the rest is history. Although, the details are still fuzzy.

Good ride. Good people. Good times. I <3 my team.
