Donation Based Bike Valet At The Within Reach Movie Austin Screening
We will be providing a free, donation based bike valet (and basic repair station) for the Within Reach movie screening event Sunday March 18th 2012 from 10am-10pm. There will be sustainability workshops onsite all day and music from Daniel Bedingfield, Hillside Fire, DJ Veedub, and DJ Malakey. The main event and movie screening starts at 5pm with the movie going on at dusk (~6:30pm).
“How can we pass along a lush, beautiful, sustainable world to future generations?”, ask Ryan and Mandy, director and producer of “Within Reach”; a film about their 6,500 mile “bike-packing” tour that documents 100 sustainable communities around the U.S. and the journey that ensues in pursuit of what it takes to live sustainably.
The Within Reach movie will be having a pre-release feedback screening (plus Q&A with filmmakers) during SXSW at the Sustain Center, a new sustainable community project based 4 miles from downtown Austin, TX at 443 S. Bastrop Hwy, Austin, TX 78701-4121 (Bike Route Map). It is suggested that bicyclists ride on the sidewalk rather than in street on the Cesar Chavez/Airport/Bastrop Hwy leg of the route (the last 1.2 miles), especially on the Airport bridge over the Colorado River (which has a separated pedestrian/cycling path).

More Background On The Movie:
In 2008, Ryan and Mandy left their corporate jobs, sold their house and cars and set off on a journey of epic proportions…to find a more sustainable lifestyle that was more in alignment with their values.
Back in 1999, they had visited Central America on a college environmental trip and saw a world of simple living, being in more touch with the Earth and one another and people living more sustainably in community. They came back to the States and tried to live more simply, but quickly got caught up on the dominant paradigm
and the cultural norms that are present in the US. After eight years being apart and wondering how to get back to simple living, they reconnected and set off on a journey of epic proportions…thousands of miles bicycling around the United States to visit 100 sustainable communities.
In 2010, after interviewing over 500 people and meeting 20,000 more along the way, their journey was complete and they chose a community to call home.
The film explores ways we can pass along a lush, beautiful, sustainable world to future generations, and shares that YES, it is possible for us all to co-create a world that is liveable for all living beings.
